We announce the death of Michael L. Dukes of Essex, Iowa, who passed away on September 5, 2026, at the age of 77. Michael will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Drexel Dukes and Dolores Gulick (Gulick); his siblings, Chuck Dukes, Gary Dukes, Jerry Dukes, Bunny Dukes and Penny Dukes; and his parents-in-law, Kendall and Maxine Schrader.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Dukes of Essex; his children, Angel Dukes (Parrish Ellis) of Essex, Kristi Clark of Clarinda, Shane Dukes (Megan) of Essex, Leslee (Lukus Brown) of Ohio, Alyssa Zwickel (Zayne) of Lincoln, Nebraska and Christian Dukes (Lydia Childs) of Red Oak; his sister Candy McCuen; his grandchildren, JJ Clark (Regan), Madolyn Johnson (Alex), Colton Smith (Tristyn), Hunter Dukes (Tori Wendt), Natalie Brown, Isabelle Brown and Azaleigh Dukes; Katie Kendall, Cassie Luft, Hayley Ellis, Devin Ellis and Rylyn Hoyle. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service (405 W Thomas Ave, Shenandoah, IA 51601). A memorial service was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dukes Family for designation.
