John Knode Obituary

John W. Knode, the son of Otto G. and Ella (Steel) Knode, was born August 24, 1927, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 81 years. He received his education in the Estherville Schools. John worked at Estherville Daily News as a typesetter. On April 1, 1945, John was united in marriage to Katherine Davis in Jackson, Minnesota.

Following their wedding the couple made their home in Estherville. John then served in the United States Army during World War Two. John started Johnnie's Service Station. He then worked at Tobin's Meat Packing Plant that later became John Morrell's. After John's retirement the couple did janitorial duties at the United Methodist Church for five years.

In their leisure time, they enjoyed traveling and made several motor coach trips with his brother and sister in-law. Katherine passed away February 18, 2005. John was a member of the First Christian Church in Estherville and later First Christian Church in Spencer. He was also a member of the VFW Post 3388 in Estherville. Left to cherish John's memory are his children, Kathy Anderson and her husband, Roger of Estherville; Johnnie Knode and his wife, Jolene of Estherville; Claudia Olson of Billings, Montana; Stanley Knode and his wife, Alvina of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Laura Johnson and her husband, Brian of Everly, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren;and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Preceding John in death were his parents; wife; and seven brothers and sisters. INTERMENT East Side Memorial Cemetery Estherville
