She was predeceased by: her parents, Leonard Brown and Mabel'Ruth' Brown (Holmes); her husbands, Patrick Shay and Dennis Nilles; her daughter Dr. Ruth Shay; her siblings, Merle Brown (Joyce) and Donnie Brown (Edna); her parents-in-law, Frank, Ruth Shay, Peter and Olga Nilles; and her in-laws, Lorne Nilles (Florence), George Nilles (Phyliss), Stan Nilles, Anthony Nilles, Betty Nilles, Ruth Grage (Gerry), Marcella Hansen (Norbert), Clarice Bainbridge (Donald) and Peter Nilles.
She is survived by: her children, Genelle Dixson (Jake) of Sioux City, IA, Dianne Shay of Sioux City, IA and Merle Shay (Becky) of Le Mars, IA; her grandchildren, Michelle Wright, Jakie Anderson, Doug Martin, Tonya Galles, Dawn Martin, Stephanie Shay, Kyle Shay and Amanda Shay-Brookhart; and her in-laws, Mark Nilles (Jean) of Le Mars, IA, Shirley Nilles of Kingsley, IA, Julie Nilles of Madison, SD and Judy Nilles of Le Mars, IA. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson.
A rosary was held on Monday, December 8th 2025 at 3:45 PM at the Rexwinkel Funeral Home - Le Mars (107 12th St SE, Le Mars, IA 51031). Visitation was held on Monday, December 8th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Tuesday, December 9th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM. A prayer was held on Monday, December 8th 2025 at 5:30 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, December 9th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the All Saints Catholic Parish - St. James (109 6th Ave SW, Le Mars, IA 51031).
