He was predeceased by: his parents, John W. DeGroot and Evelyn E. DeGroot (Schroeder); his daughter Sheila Haspels; his sister Nadine Dykstra (Kenny); and his sister-in-law Patricia DeGroot.
He is survived by: his wife Kathy Schoo of Mary's Catholic Church; his daughter Karen Winkel (Jeff) of Ashton, IA; his grandchildren, Austin Winkel (Madisen), Dylan Winkel (Olivia) and Emily Winkel; his son Dan DeGroot (Jodi) of George, IA; his grandchildren, Dax DeGroot (Avery Zylstra) and Jesse DeGroot; his son-in-law Larry Haspels of Little Rock, IA; his children, Johnathan Haspels and Ellyanna Haspels; and his siblings, Darrell DeGroot (Twila) of Sheldon, IA, Dale DeGroot (Mike Watson) of Cathedral City, CA and Carol Hovey (Art) of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
