He was predeceased by: his parents, Heinrich Winter and Anna Winter (Kruse); his wife Joanne Kruse; his siblings, Alfred, Viola, Leora, Leonard, Lucinda and Erwin; and his siblings-in-law, Larry and Lorna.
He is survived by: his sons, James Winter (Mary) of George, IA, Donald Winter (Mary Jo) of Harrisburg, SD and Wayne Winter of Boyden, IA; his grandchildren, Jeremy Winter (Liz) of Boyden, IA, Katie Winter of Tea, SD, Alan Winter (Emily) of Worthington, MN, Kyle Winter (Krysta) of Harrisburg, SD, Kristin Hall (Nate) of Sharpsburg, GA and Kurt Winter (Erica Kroening) of Austin, TX; his great grandchildren, Noah, Addilyn, Amelia, Henry and Joanna; and his siblings-in-law, Roger Kruse (LaDonna) of Matlock, IA, Lawrence Modder of George, IA, Sherri Kruse of Sioux Falls, SD and Carol Winter of Montevideo, MN. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the St. John's Lutheran Church (3941 280th St, Boyden, IA 51234). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 21st 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the same location.
