She was predeceased by: her parents, Elmer Martens and Esther Martens (Anderson); her son Michael Appelgate; and her brother-in-law Dale Sievers. She is survived by: her husband Merlyn Appelgate of Gladbrook; her daughter-in-law Lisa Appelgate of Parma, OH; her grandchildren, Regan Hofman (Chris) of Lakewood, OH, Conner Appelgate (Victoria) of Cincinnati, OH and Rylee Appelgate of Para, OH; and her siblings, Barbara Sievers, David Martens (Judy) and Sam Martens (Susan).

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22nd 2025 at 1:00 PM and at 1:30 PM at 429 Johnston St, Gladbrook, IA 50635.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established by the family.
