He was predeceased by: his mother Vivian Plate (Simmons); and his sister Debbie Sosebee. He is survived by: his father John Plate; his wife Cindy Schmidt (Kriegel); his sons, Jonathan Plate (Nichelle) of Grinnell, Ryan Plate (Alex) of Grinnell and Andy Plate (Felicity) of Grinnell; his stepchildren, Jesse Schmidt (Brooke) of Montezuma, Chad Schmidt (Karley) of Montezuma and Cherie Koivisto (Teemu) of Tampere, Finland; his grandchildren, Abbey, Dawson Plate, Mason, Claire Plate, Bryn, Jade Schmidt, Jonah, Josie Schmidt and Niko Koivisto; his brothers, Bob Plate (Mellisa) and Tim Plate (Cindy); his nieces and nephews, Trisha Smith (Brian), Jason Sosebee (Kristen), Ryan Chapman, Cody Chapman, Emma Plate, Kaitlyn Plate and Madeline Plate; and his brother-in-law Tom Sosebee.
