He was predeceased by: his mother Madeline Gardner (Collins); his wife Debbie Aistrope; his father Harold Gardner; his parents-in-law, Dean and Lois Aistrope; and his brother-in-law George Clark.

He is survived by: his daughter Megan Benefiel (Zach) of Nebraska City; his grandsons, Glen and Dean Benefiel; his brother Martin Gardner of Hamburg; and his siblings-in-law, Deanna Clark of Hamburg and Tom Aistrope (Sharon) of Shenandoah. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are being directed to the George C. Grape Hospital Foundation.
