He was predeceased by: his parents, Maurice Stevens and Mona Stevens (Hallowell); and his parents-in-law, Robert and Twyla Moody. He is survived by: his wife Roberta "Robbi" of Hampton; his children, Brian Douglas "Doug" Stevens (Megan) of Des Moines, IA and Brooke Stevens (Jeffrey Vollmer) of Arlington, VA; his grandchildren, Caleb and Ashley Stevens of Des Moines; and his siblings, Rebecca Krogman (Don) of Sibley, IA and Barry Stevens of Lake City, IA.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1st 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hampton - Woodley Funeral Home (306 Central Ave E, Hampton, IA 50441). A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Hampton United Methodist Church (100 Central Ave E, Hampton, IA 50441).

Besides his contributions to music education, he directed the Hampton Municipal Band from 1978–2010, and he continued as a tuba player in that band until 2025.
