With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Maxine M. Book (Harlan, Iowa), born in Earling, Iowa, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Maxine left this world on July 7, 2025 at the age of 82, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Lawrence Gaul and Esther Gaul (Hodapp); her in-laws, Raymond and Sidonia Book; and also, Maxine Schwery (George) and Emilie Koster (Bob).
She is survived by: her husband Raymond Book of Joseph's Catholic Church; her daughters, Cathy Robertson (Vic) of Brandt, SD, Michele Sundholm (Jeff) of Harlan, Rosemary Stitz (Ron) of Harlan, Debra Campbell (Paul) of Hamlin and Patricia Brue (Bob) of Harlan; her grandchildren, Alex Sundholm, Jacob Sundholm, Michael Klein (Megan), Taylor Klein (Jordan Dostal), Marcus Klein, Emily Jensen (John), Anna Campbell, Bradley Brue (Emily Murtha) and Abbey Brue; her great grandchildren, Emmett, Jace and Jaxon Klein; and her siblings, Jerry Gaul (Nancy) of Albuquerque, NM, Bob Gaul (Joan) of Johnston, IA, Bill Gaul (Sharon) of Tucson, AZ, Mary Huss (Rick) and Donna Wright (Mike). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Calendar St Michael's Catholic Church (2001 College Pl, Harlan, IA 51537). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorials to be directed to St. Michael's Guild or Hearts and Hands Sewing Group.
