He was predeceased by: his parents, Levi Sandven and Pearl Sandven (Behrens); his wife Joanne Elizabeth Edge; and his siblings, Dorothy Ricklefs, Marvin and Lowell Sandven.

He is survived by: his sons, Douglas Sandven (Leisa) of Humboldt and Steven Sandven (Charlene) of Humboldt; his grandchildren, Craig Sandven (Cindy), Tyler Sandven (Michelle), Brandy Mayall (Cody), Brittany Caryl (Reed), Chelsea Peters (Dylan) and Skyler Sandven; his great grandchildren, Taylor, Braden Sandven, Sydnie, Rylie, Kylan, Kynlie Sandven, Alexis, Owen Mayall, Carson, Piper Caryl and Xander Peters; and his sister Sharon Saul (Peter) of Rowlett, Texas..
