He was predeceased by: his parents, George Leonard and Dolores Leonard (Thompson); and his brother-in-law Chuck Ellingson. He is survived by: his wife Kathy Ellingson; his daughters, Shelly Herron (Matt) of Austin, TX and Kelsey Leonard (Kai Fiewig) of Seattle, WA; his grandchildren, Eli, Melanie, Juan and Eben Rhett of Austin; his brothers, Greg (Reneé) of Correctionville, Kirby (Patti) of Lake Conroe, TX and Jarrod (Monica) of Conifer, CO; and his siblings-in-law, Jim Ellingson (Neala), Steve of Des Moines and Connie Ellingson of Ames. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Although Rhett's intentions were to donate as many of his major organs as he could when he was gone, his illness changed those plans but he was able to donate his eyes and tissue with the hopes of helping others. Memorials will be directed to Ida County EMS to be used for equipment purchases and Glioblastoma Brain Tumor Research at Mayo Clinic.
