It is with sadness that the passing of Helen (Roberts) Hertzberg of Independence, Iowa is shared. Helen, born on June 8, 1944, passed away on September 22, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Arthur "Art" and Mary Grace Roberts (McGrath); her husband Donald "Joe" Hertzberg; and her siblings, Mike, Donald, James, Wayne Roberts and Phyllis Kay Roberts.
She is survived by: her children, Thomas Hertzberg (Michelle) of Colorado, John Hertzberg (Jana) of Washington and Jane Duehr (John) of Iowa; her grandchildren, Kate Davis (Chris), Travis Duehr (Matti), Taya Duehr (Lowell), Jack, Jacob and Lexington Hertzberg; her great grandchildren, Griffin and Ryder Davis; and her siblings, Patrick Roberts and Ruth Ann Farlow.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM and from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the Reiff Family Center - Funeral Home & Crematory (216 3rd Ave SE, Independence, IA 50644). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the St. John's Catholic Church (209 5th Ave NE, Independence, IA 50644).
In a final, beautiful act of generosity, Helen gave the ultimate gift of life and healing to others through tissue donation with the Iowa Donor Network a true testament to her endlessly giving spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Independence Public Library in Helen's name, honoring her lifelong passion for reading.
