She was predeceased by: her parents, William Daniel Reiter and Bessie Bell Reiter (Fox); her husband Clarence M. Bitterman; her sister Bonita "Bonnie" Reiter; her son-in-law John Sand; and her siblings-in-law, William James Brandhorst and Dolores Aery (Robert).
She is survived by: her children, Robert Bitterman (Marlys) of Cedar Rapids, Gerald Bitterman (Rhonda Ramler) of Manchester, Steve Bitterman (Rhonda) of Independence, LuAnn Sand of Independence and Sheri Hartkemeyer (Keith) of Elberon, Iowa; her sister Janice Seemann (Allan) of Independence; and her sister-in-law Doretta Brandhorst of Waterloo, Iowa. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 18 step-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the White Funeral Home (400 1st St W, Independence, IA 50644). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church (512 5th St NE, Independence, IA 50644).
