He was predeceased by: his parents, Willard Nelson and Hazel Nelson (Carey); his parents-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Luitjens; and his sister-in-law Tracy Luitjens.
He is survived by: his wife Joan; his children, Troy Nelson of Shakopee, Minnesota and Tara Christenson (Scott) of Lake Park, Iowa; his grandchildren, Peyton, Miranda and Hanna; his siblings, Bob Nelson (Carol), Don Nelson (Sue) and Carla Olsem (George); and his siblings-in-law, Terry Luitjens, Steve Luitjens, Mike Luitjens (Cathy) and Janice Vacura (Gary). He is also survived by extended family members and friends.
