He was predeceased by: his parents, Verdell Haakenson and Lois Haakenson (Long); and his grandson Gabriel Evans. He is survived by: his wife Marcia; his daughter Erin; his son-in-law Jeremiah Evans; his son Adam of Council Bluffs; his grandchildren, Eve, Michael, Raphael and Emma-Jean Evans; his sisters, Roxanne Hughes of Iowa City and Cheryl Krase of Vancouver, Wash.; and his siblings-in-law, Dan Tschakert (Patti) of Florence, Gregory Tschakert of Aberdeen, Ann Tuchscherer (Dale) of Milbank and Valerie Tschakert of St. Cloud, Minn.. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 18th 2025 at 4:30 PM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church (102 5th St, Wall Lake, IA 51466). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, September 19th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
