He was predeceased by: his parents, Brian Hystad and Alvina Hystad; his father-in-law Sylvester Vortherms; and his cousins, Rick and Kim Letvin.
He is survived by: his daughter Danielle Hystad of Le Mars, IA; his wife Carol A. Vortherms; his son Matthew (Nicole) of Harrisburg, SD; his brother David of Milbank, SD; his mother-in-law Ellen Vortherms of Worthington, MN; and his in-laws, Pat Pospisil (Jim) of Alexandria, MN, Dale Vortherms (Dee Rae) of Spirit Lake, IA, Julie Weber (Mark) of St Francis, MN, Ken Vortherms (Tammy) of Winfield, MO, Mark Vortherms (Jane) of Avon, MN and Keith Vortherms (Lisa) of St. Louis Park, MN. He is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces & nephews; numerous cousins and other extended relatives.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 27th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Rexwinkel Funeral Home (107 12th St SE, Le Mars, IA 51031). A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 27th 2025 at 5:00 PM at the same location.
