He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Kots and Lorraine Kots (Boone); his parents-in-law, Paul and Phyllis Stoos (Reints); his former wife Pat Kots; and his sister Linda VanderLaan.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Ann Stoos; his children, Barbara Sanow (Brian) of Remsen and Michael Kots (Angie) of Clarinda, Iowa; his grandchildren, Ben Lehner (Savana), Branden Lehner (Nicole), Zach Sanow, Matthew Kots (Katie) and Matthan Kots; his great grandchildren, Roman, Aiden and Rhett; his siblings, Loren Kots (Henny) of Sioux Falls, SD, Luann Whittrock (Bob) of Cherokee, IA, Lyle Kots of Whiting, IA and Lola Kots; and his brother-in-law Marion'Butch'VanderLaan of Maurice, IA. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Le Mars Fire and Rescue.
