He is survived by : his children, Mark Schlesser (Shelly) of Le Mars, IA, Donna Huss (Larry) of Yankton, SD, Randy Schlesser of Le Mars, IA, Bob Schlesser (Lori) of Le Mars, IA and Jerry Schlesser (Terri) of Dutton, MT; his son-in-law Chuck Johnson of Le Mars, IA; his grandchildren, Matthew (Katelyn), Craig (Caitlin), Aaron Schlesser (Kelsey), Jamie Huss (Sydney), Dani Marcial (Alberto), Lacey Oehlerking (James), Kyle (Jackie), Chad (Kelsey), Joshua, Scott Schlesser (Kelsey), Melanie Greenstein (Michael), Megan Johnson-Gott (Isaac), Emilie Montag (Jared), Jeri Lyn Lawrenson (Bill), Jason Schlesser (Kiley), Brooke Kugler (Logan), Chris Schlesser (Nikki) and Suzanne Schlesser (Shawn); and his sister Delores Arens of Le Mars, IA. He is also survived by 30 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family prefers memorials to St. Croix Hospice of Sioux City.
