He was predeceased by: his parents, Shelton Smith and Katherine Smith (Murphy); his brothers, Roger, Sam, Jim and Kenny Smith; his mother-in-law Helen Evans; and his son-in-law Mike Swanson.
He is survived by: his wife Sue; his children, Ronica Poldervaart (Steven) of Fort Dodge, Angela Hinton (Mark) of Fort Dodge, Tina Swanson (late Mike) of Fort Dodge, Stephanie Haines (Andy) of Clare and Brett Smith (Tara) of Lehigh; his sisters, Lenore Page and Marilyn McCubbin (Jerry); and his sister-in-law Sue Smith. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Christian Church (341 Elm St, Lehigh, IA 50557). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
