He was predeceased by: his parents, Orville Leroy Carmichael and Kathleen Ardenia Booher; his brother Howard Leroy "H. L."; his grandparents, Adam of Tennessee and Laura J. Booher (Nigh); his children, Dennis (Rhonda) and Laura (David Treadwell); his former wife Jeanne; his granddaughter Linda; his great grandchild Kaitlyn; and his sister-in-law Dorothy Carmichael.

He is survived by: his former wife Lois Jean Davis; his son Joe (Rhonda); his stepchildren, Travis Hughes (Linessa), Todd Hughes (Chelsie), Hillary Weir, Heidi Hicks (Rusty) and Holly Rash (Andrew); his wife Devra; his cousin Carolyn Curtis; and his brothers-in-law, Doyle South and Dennis South (Sharon). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and seven great, great grandchildren.
