He was predeceased by: his mother Ella Metzger; his wife Mary Jane; his brothers, John and Boyd Metzger; and his siblings-in-law, Lois Metzger, Don Luthi, Joel Wuthrich and Leonard Anliker.
He is survived by: his father Ernst Metzger; his children, John Metzger (Peggy), Lloyd Metzger (Mindy) and Jennifer Puetz (Brett); his grandchildren, Shelby Loes (Taylor), Gabrielle Metzger (Caleb), Carissa Metzger (Lexie), Andrew Metzger (Tayler), Ryan Metzger (Anna), Tyler Puetz (Hannah) and Brianna Christie (Alec); his great grandchildren, Arabella Puetz, Aubrie Metzger, Hallie Metzger and Max Christie; and his siblings, Shirley Wuthrich, Della Luthi, Ella Martin (John), Helen Anliker, Alvin Metzger, Arthur Metzger (Kristy), Virgil Metzger (Mary), Glen Metzger (Joyce), Arlene Grimm (Rod), Harvey Metzger (Mary), Rodney Metzger (Polly), Ida Kellenberger (Keith) and Harold Metzger (Patricia). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, August 30th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Apostolic Christian Church (510 Dove Ave, Lester, IA 51242). A funeral service was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lyon County Historical Society.
