He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Lee Helvie and Bernice Lucille Helvie (Holdren); his sister Dolores Connell; his nephew Mark Connell; and his brother-in-law Don Connell.

He is survived by: his wife Connie Walter; his children, Sherry Keefe (Nick) of Corning and Lenny Helvie of Corning; his grandchildren, Darien Robison (Brandon) of Corning, Chloe Thompson (David) of Creston and Roman Keefe of Ankeny; his great grandchildren, Ellie Thompson and Ivy Thompson; and his sister-in-law Carolyn Dixon (Merlin).
