He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward "Eddie" Whalen and Leona Whalen; and his brother Daniel Whalen (Joan). He is survived by: his children, Mikel Hansen (Kelly) of Ames, Erika Malena (Michael) of Ionia and Cassidy Whalen of Mankato, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Hadley, Blythe, Graham, Merrick, Kali and Paisley; his siblings, Kevin Whalen (Della) of Canton, Minnesota and Brenda Holthaus (Allen) of Cresco, Iowa; his sister-in-law Elaine St. Mary; and his nieces and nephews, Carter, Olivia and Wyatt. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
