He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Francis O'Donnell and Virginia O'Donnell (Slick); his stepmother Doris "Dode" O'Donnell; his sister Olivia "Ollie" Bruns (Bob); and his in-law Mervyn Sturdivan (Jayne).
He is survived by: his wife Sheri; his pet Chloe Jo; his son Patrick (Donnell); his granddaughter Emma Barton O'Donnell; his half-brother Scott Weig (Cathy) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his nephew Mike Bruns (Joannie); his great-nephews, Treyton and Austin Bruns of Oldsmar; his sister-in-law Sandi Wiltgen (Joe) of Ankeny, Iowa; and his sibling's children, Tanner Wiltgen of Ankeny, Iowa, Amber Brannaman (Alex) and Brooks Brannaman of Lisbon, Iowa.. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins.
