He is survived by: his children, Ruth Brearley (Dennis) of Waxahachie, TX, Phillip Monson (Janice) of Humboldt and Wayne Monson (Dee) of Ankeny; his grandchildren, Deanna Rolland, Joel Rolland (Carla), Heidi Cook (Danny), Derek Oelmann, Heather Donavan (Josh), Evan Monson (Natassia) and Robert Monson (Paige); his great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Rolland, Abygail Rolland, Elouise Monson and Lilian Monson; and his sisters-in-law, Arda Oppedahl of Humboldt and Carolyn Oppedahl of Dubuque.
