With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Steven J. Benischek of Lost Nation, Iowa, who passed away on April 23, 2025 at the age of 79. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Benischek and Esther Benischek (Ruchotzke); his brothers, Gerald and Otto; and his son Scott.

He is survived by: his wife Barb; his children, Randy Benischek (Jeff Macomber) of Clarence, Brenda Kroeger (Clark) of Long Grove and James Benischek of Lost Nation; his grandchildren, Hannah Fehr (Justin), Luke Kroeger, Marae Benischek and Megan Benischek; his great grandchild Nolan Fehr; and his sisters, Carolyn Zaruba of Cedar Rapids, Mary Jo Smiley of Anamosa and Beverly Valerlus (Mark) of Davenport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for distribution to his favorite charities.

“We are so sorry to hear about our cousin Steve's sudden loss. He is remembered fondly by all of us here. I remember when we were young and at grandma tillies house, when Steve and both crashed the car and had to show grandma all the injuries. That is how he got that scar on his face and his mouth was wired shut, I made him show me the wires. Aunt Marlene will have prayers said for him. God Bless”
