She was predeceased by: her parents, August Bregar and Mary Bregar (Oswalt); and her husband Bob Merkel. She is survived by: her daughters, Crystal Carlson (Marc), Denise Burgen (Rick) and Marla Prewitt (Frank); her siblings, Betty Dodd, Mary Ann Grantz, Bill Bregar (Sandy) and John Bregar (Chrisy); her sister-in-law Betty Jean Bregar; and her close friends, Jack, Linda Sharp and Chris Schumacker. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, July 26th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Madrid VFW Post 5060 Madrid VFW Post 5060 (229 S State St, Madrid, IA 50156).
