He was predeceased by: his parents, John Henry and Gertrude Mae Gibbs (Scovel); his wife Marilyn Rentschler; his parents-in-law, Maxine Rentschler Hanson (Kafer) and Howard Hanson; his siblings, Gladus Utt, Mildred Fagestrom, Dorothy Rippon, Hazel Lei, Alta Kelley, Marilyn Gibbs, Harry Gibbs, Robert Gibbs and John Gibbs, Jr.; his half-siblings, Albert Gibbs and Alberta Gibbs; and his brothers-in-law, Gene Glesne and Carl Rentschler.
He is survived by: his sisters-in-law, Dr. Betty Hanson of Alhambra and Judy Glesne of Omaha, Nebraska. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
