She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Lekin and Edith Lekin (Postel); and her granddaughter Sarah Matthews. She is survived by: her husband James J. Berns of Marion; her children, JoLeah Hurst of Marion, Janice Tryggvason (Helgi) of Grand Prairie, Jean Berns of Cedar Rapids and Jim Berns (Kathy) of Muscatine, Iowa; her grandchildren, Stacy Zaiger, Melissa Demorí, Jeremy Hurst, Justin Tryggvason, Ryan Tryggvason, Logan Delmasso, Cameron Tryggvason, Mary Osterberg, Allison Kerr and Regan Brisker; and her sisters, Norma Fillmore of Cedar Rapids and Wendy Armstrong (Terry) of Central City, Iowa.. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of Mercy or a charity of donor's choice.
