He was predeceased by: his parents, Patrick Egan and Georgine Egan (Galvin); his sister Patty; his brother-in-law Tom Biver; his granddaughter Jessica Egan; and his pet Socks.

He is survived by: his former wife Betty Ann Kisner; his wife Janan Kelly-Egan of Marion; his children, James Egan (Nancy) of Oelwein, John Egan of Oelwein, Mark Egan (Michelle) of Las Vegas, Mary Ann Michels (Paul) of Hazleton and Birdie Egan of Oelwein; and his stepchildren, Pam Tucker (John) of Phoenix, AZ, Patti Cash (Jeff) of Cedar Rapids, Brett Kelly (Kathy) of Waunakee, WI, Bryan Kelly (Chris) of Waukee and Blaine Kelly of Lafayette, LA. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and 9 step-grandchildren.
