He was predeceased by: his parents, Diedrick Dirks and Mable Dirks (Jenkins); his wife Dorothy Dirks; his daughter Pamela Dirks; and his siblings, Joan Gustafson, Rosella Lenz and Robert Dirks.
He is survived by: his children, Roger A. Dirks of Marshalltown, Gregory L. Dirks (Susan) of Iowa City, Thomas D. Dirks of Mingo and Daniel J. Dirks (Meredith) of Iowa City; his grandchildren, April Dirks, Monica Dirks, Eric Dirks, Christopher Dirks (Brittani), Amanda Bloomquist (Travis), Aaron Dirks (Becca), Emily Dirks, Sarah Dirks and Lily Dirks; and his brother Dick Dirks. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
