He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Sowards and Carla Sowards (Hughes). He is survived by: his brothers, Jim Sowards of Dallas, Jeff Sowards (Michelle) of Allen and Kevin Sowards (Melanie) of The Colony, Texas.; and his friends, Joanne Manternach, Mary Ann and John Boriskey.

Memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in Marshalltown.
