With sadness, we share the passing of Richard Merl Schmidt of Marshalltown, Iowa. Richard, born on August 12, 1948, passed away on September 8, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Merl Schmidt and Wilma Schmidt (Weitzell); his wife Marsha Jean; his son Eric Schmidt; his grandson Braydon Schmidt; and his brother Robert Schmidt.
He is survived by: his son Marc Schmidt (Jennifer) of Charter Oak, IA; his daughter-in-law Lisa Schmidt of Albion; his grandsons, Jacob and Nathan Schmidt; and his siblings, Mary Lynn Thompson (Perry) of Newton and John Charles Schmidt (Virginia) of Tama. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering was held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home (209 E 7th St, Tama, IA 52339). A burial was held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 at 2:15 PM at the Maple Grove Cemetery (1712 380th St, Tama, IA 52339).
