He was predeceased by: his parents, Pearl Shafer and Carl Shafer; and his siblings, Raymond, Ralph, Frank Shafer and Leila Atkinson.
He is survived by: his brothers, Joe and David Shafer; and his siblings' children, Karla, Vicky, Glenys, Peggy, Charlie, Linda, Tom, Lori, Scott, Jill, Kathy, Kevin, Davi and Trina.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 26th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Major Erickson Funeral Home (111 N Pennsylvania Ave, Mason City, IA 50401). A funeral service was held on Monday, January 26th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Monday, January 26th 2026 at the Hillside Cemetery (1871 255th St, Sheffield, IA 50475).
