He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter LeRoy and Pearl Symes (Newbery); his wife Joanne Darlene Klipping; and his siblings, Shirley Schultz, Dale Symes, Russell Symes, Donna Walters, Judi Moritz, Evelyn Connell and Linda Wilson.

He is survived by: his nephew Bryan Wilson (Ashley) of Council Bluffs; his niece Kelly Moritz of Mason City; his sister Joyce Colombo (Tony) of Mason City; and his brothers-in-law, Erwin Moritz and Gordon Wilson. He is also survived by fourteen other nieces and nephews.
