He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Maassen and Helen Maassen (Kammerer); his parents-in-law, Ron Luth and Joan Luth; and his siblings-in-law, Barb Akert, Sue Fitzgerald and Ron Fitzgerald.
He is survived by: his wife Sherry Maassen; his children, Tim McGuire (Kim) of Edina, Minnesota and Molly Geise (Brandon) of Story City; his grandchildren, Drew McGuire, Matt McGuire, MaKayla Geise, Katie McGuire, Madison Geise and Miley Geise; his siblings, Mart Maassen of Indiana, Cary Maassen (Betty) of Iowa City and Ramona Jeffrey (Robert) of Mason City; and his siblings-in-law, Rick Luth (Gwen) of Kearney, Nebraska, Rhonda Stones (Ivan) of Kearney, Nebraska, Jeff Luth of Kearney, Nebraska, Mike Luth of Omaha, Nebraska, Mary Anderson (Greg) of Littleton and Wayne Akert. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and valued friends and neighbors.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 25th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel (126 3rd St NE, Mason City, IA 50401). A memorial service was held on Monday, January 26th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Grace Church (440 N Illinois Ave, Mason City, IA 50401).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be addressed to the Maassen Memorial Fund for donation to the Alzheimer's Association and other charitable causes.
