He was predeceased by: his daughter Catherine Elizabeth O'Brien; his grandson Christopher Aman; his parents, Philip O'Brien and Margaret O'Brien (Carmody); and his brothers, Bob and Dave O'Brien.
He is survived by: his wife Kathryn Darlene O'Brien (Hannam); his children, Karol Kalra (Punit), Susan Smith, Margaret Aman of John's Hospital and Daniel O'Brien (Danielle); and his sister Patricia Ross. He is also survived by 11 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 19th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church (200 Trinity Ave, Melrose, IA 52569). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, November 19th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.
