He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Pettit and Esther Pettit; and his brothers, Donnie and Bill. He is survived by: his wife Debbie Pettit; his sister Bonnie Neitz; his children, Shalene Wilmes (Todd) of St. Joseph, Missouri, Matthew Pettit of Woodburn, Iowa, Ginger Darrone (Christian) of Cochranville, Pennsylvania, Clay Pettit of Creston, Iowa, Cain Pettit (John Michael) of Tacoma, Washington and Kenneth Jones (Kerri) of Creston, Iowa; his grandchildren, Danielle Wilmes, Kaycie Wilmes, Caylee Pettit, Trinity Wilmes, Delaney Pettit, Jace Pettit, Ethan Darrone and Mason Darrone; his great grandchildren, Ryan, Luna and Declan; and his siblings-in-law, Sueann Stephens (Steve) and Kelly Davis (Marcy) of St Joseph, MO. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided.
