He was predeceased by: his parents, Orville Clifford and Wilma Frances Lee McDowell; and his siblings, Kenny McDowell and Esther. He is survived by: his wife Bea of Mt. Pleasant; his children, Teri Stoltz of Keosauqua and Charles McDowell (Wendy) of Salem; his grandchildren, Caleb, Spencer, Tyler, Cameron Stoltz, Chelsey Bencze, Holden and Gage McDowell; and his brother Richard McDowell (Susi) of Alba, Texas.. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the family.
