She was predeceased by: her parents, Elmer Newton and Vivian Newton (Leatherman); her siblings, Ron Newton, Wendy Cozad, Patsy Woodworth, Jolie Thorndyke and Harold; her grandson Deven; her son-in-law Jay Bright; and her brother-in-law Denny Hargrave.

She is survived by: her husband David Lee Vargus, Sr. of Muscatine; her children, Angela Vargus of Muscatine, David Vargus, Jr. (Barb Orr) of Muscatine and Tina Bright of Fredonia; her stepdaughters, Lisa Strause and Angie Frye; and her siblings, Caroline Miller of Muscatine, Ernest Newton (Mary) of Spokane, David Newton (Michelle) of Idaho, Timothy Newton of Muscatine, Lisa Hargrave of Muscatine and Melodie Grandinetti (Denny) of Spokane. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.
