He was predeceased by: his parents, Beulah Smith (Charles O. Kapteina) and Roy; and his siblings, Mildred Phillips and Charles Kapteina Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Kapteina; his daughter Kari Palutis (Dave); and his granddaughter Ella Palutis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society in honor of a very nice man.
