It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Rick Bates of New Virginia, Iowa, born in Albia, Iowa, who passed away on July 3, 2025, at the age of 67, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Bates; his parents, Dorothy Bates and Kenny Bates; his nephew Wayne Field; and his pets, Harley and BJ.
He is survived by: his friend Harley Davidson; his sister Debbie Field Taylor (John); his nieces, Jennifer Brown (Brandy Booton) and Toni Mincey (Joe); his aunts, Linda Whitlock and Karen Johnannes; his brother-in-law Chuck Tyrrel (Shirley); and his nephews, Paul Tyrrel (Denise) and Matt Tyrrel (Jill). He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, and countless close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Welcome Home Solider monument in Albia, Iowa in Rick's memory.
