He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Halferty and Alice Halferty (Bond); his wife Melba Davis; his grandson Jason Gardner; and his siblings, Joan Lanphier, Kathleen Freeman, Joe Halferty and Rex Halferty.
He is survived by: his children, Jeannie Mathis of Lakeland, Jim Halferty of Newton, Alan Halferty (Kendra) of Summerfield, Tim Halferty (Sharon) of Newton, Dan Halferty (Kim) of Colo and John Halferty (Kendra) of Colfax; and his sister Maxine Kubath (Jim) of Burlington, Wisconsin. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory (1115 E 19th St N, Newton, IA 50208-2539). A graveside service was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 at 12:30 PM at the Newton Union Cemetery (1601 W 4th St N, Newton, IA 50208).
Memorials to the Newton Salvation Army or Doctors Without Borders may be left at the funeral home.
