He was predeceased by: his parents, Dimas Lopez Hernandez, Sr. and Ernestina García Hernandez; his daughters, Magdalena Hernandez Portillo and Herlinda Chavez; and his brother Dimas Hernandez.
He is survived by: his wife Maria Pesina; his children, Ernestina Hernandez-Zudell (Ryan), Jesse Hernandez (Elaine), Daniel Hernandez (Christina) and Katarina Hernandez Mendoza (Mauricio); his siblings, Juan Hernandez, Ramiro Hernandez (Janie), Lucelia Ramirez (Febronio), Rosalinda Villarreal and Margie Reyes; and his caregivers, Becca, Kelly and Sherlean. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Memorials can be made in David's name to Iowa City Hospice or the Iowa Agency for Aging (help for the elderly).
