He was predeceased by : his parents, Paul Carter and Lois Carter (Pagel); his sister Janis Carter; his stepmother Ellie Carter; and his mother-in-law Jean Mahanna.

He is survived by : his wife Debbie; his daughters, Shannon Innis (John), Stephanie Boesenberg (Jim) and Jamie Evans (Morgan); his grandchildren, Ryan Boesenberg, Grace Evans and Casey Evans; his brother Dennis Carter (Katha); and his stepsister LeaAnn Thompson (Jim).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of North Liberty or the Bird House – Hospice Home of Johnson County.
