He is survived by: his son Brett Hovatter (Angel) of Oelwein, Iowa; his grandchildren, Abbie, Emma, Carter Hovatter of Oelwein, Sierra and Dakota McFarland of Waterloo, Iowa; and his siblings, Kathy Stephens of Reno, Nevada and Jim Deweise of Gilbertville, Iowa. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and, several great nieces and nephews.
