Steven Kennon Obituary

The passing of Steven Kennon (Oelwein, Iowa) occurred on October 2, 2026. Steven is remembered by those who knew him. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Gale Kennon and Ina Kennon (Locke); his sisters, Doris Kies (Orville), Joanne Lang and Carol Larson; his brothers-in-law, Raymond Doerring, Robert Lockard, Russell Lockard, Lawrence Hurd (Shirley) and James Hawkins; his son-in-law Dan Smith; his grandson Steven Jeffers; and his great grandchild Lincoln Grundmeyer.

He is survived by: his grandson Ryan; his wife Carol Kennon (Lockard); his children, Susan Nichols (Bill) of Camanche, David Kennon (JoLynne) of Maynard, Jeffrey Kennon (Teresa) of Lime Springs, Julie Bloom (Tom) of Maynard and Sharon Smith of Denver; his sister Grace Doerring of Elkader; and his siblings-in-law, Danny Lang of Macon, Missouri, Glen Larson of Decorah, Marjorie Hawkins, Evelyn Lockard of Sumner and Linda Leal of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren and counting and many nieces & nephews, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and the many friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Wednesday, October 7th 2026 at 9:30 AM at the Schmitz Funeral Home (254 W Jackson St, Winthrop, IA 50682). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 7th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul Lutheran Church (160 6th St N, Maynard, IA 50606).

Memorials will be given to support Fayette County 4-H Programs.
