He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold Smith and Elizabeth Smith (Wheelbarger); and his brothers, Arthur Smith, James Smith and Larry Smith.

He is survived by: his brother Michael Smith (Ann) of Hillsboro, Oregon; his close friend LaVerne Holmberg (Barbara) of Onawa; and also Abby Dean (Axton) of Onawa, Iowa. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and many other friends.
