He is survived by: his sons, John Bortell (Tiffany) of New Virginia, IA and Justin Karstens (Kari) of Buffalo, MN; his stepdaughters, Kayla Ross of Des Moines, IA and Sara Moss of Dallas, TX.; his grandchildren, Jarrett, Macinzee, Jordyn, Tara, Scylur, Kalleah, Taelynn, Rowan, Logan, Kloey, Maren, Quinn, Odin and Jackson; his great grandchildren, Royce, Kaylani, Kenneth and Khalaiziah; and his siblings, Debbie Skarda (John), Cindy Dick (Jimmy), Kaycee Schippers (Terry), Clyde Ray and Chad Bortell (Melanie).
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gerry Allen Memorial Park Building (809 West St, New Virginia, IA 50210).
